• ACHS Orientation for all classes
Alcorn Central High School will host 2 separate orientation nights for their students in preparation for the beginning of school on Thursday, August 7.
    Thursday, July 31
    5:00 p.m. Seniors
    7:00 p.m. Juniors
    Monday, August 4
    5:00 p.m. Sophomores
    7:00 p.m. Freshmen
During this orientation, students and their parent(s) will have the opportunity to gather information and complete the necessary paperwork required by state law.  This includes: student information sheets with correct phone numbers and email addresses, school handbooks that answer many procedural questions, locker sales, parking passes, standing check out approval, registration packets (home language, residency, emergency health, acceptable use policy for technology, photography on websites) if not already completed.
There will be computers available for families to complete Active Parent sign up and online secure lunch forms. One thing ACHS parents and students might not understand is how our school would benefit from Title funds.  These funds are currently available for both Alcorn Central Elementary and Middle Schools and are based on the number of students who qualify for free and reduced lunches.  The online lunch forms are the only way to determine whether our students qualify.  This procedure is completely private and the results are not known by our students or staff.
Another important documentation we are required to have are copies of two proofs of residence that must be dated for July and should include two of the following: utility bill with name of parent/guardian and address visible, automobile registration, apartment or home lease, mortgage documents or property deed, have filed homestead exemption application form.  During the Senior time slot, information will be available concerning Yearbook deadlines and Senior Sounds information.
Alcorn Central's new principal, Brandon Quinn, is excited to start the 2014-15 school year with such an informative and helpful orientation for students and parents.  After all of the necessary information has been completed, the students will receive their class schedules.
We hope to see all our students and their parent(s) either on July 31 or August 4!

    FFA State Convention
On June 2-5, 2014, six members from the Alcorn Central FFA Chapter attended the 81st State FFA Convention held on the campus of Mississippi State University in Starkville. During the convention, FFA members from all over the state are recognized for their success in career development events (cde), chapter awards, and accomplishments of individual supervised agricultural experience programs. Megan Robinson placed 1st in the job interview cde which will qualify her to represent Mississippi at the National FFA Convention in October in Louisville, KY.
The agricultural education program in Mississippi’s secondary schools requires that each student plan and implement a supervised agriculture experience program (SAE) related to their career interests during high school. FFA members advance through the Greenhand and Chapter degree levels, investing time, effort and/or money into their SAE and keeping detailed records of the skills they learn, the inventory they may acquire and the work that they accomplish. After two years of Agricultural Education classroom instruction and having invested 500 hours or earned $1500 on their SAE, they are eligible for the coveted State FFA Degree. Shari Armstrong and Megan Robinson of the Alcorn Central FFA Chapter were awarded the highest honor a member can earn, the State FFA Degree.
