Through the cooperation of the
Vocational Division of the state Department of education, the Alcorn
Career & Technology Center has organized adult evening classes for
the Spring Semester. These classes are being conducted to provide
training for persons so they may become gainfully employed and
upgrade those already employed. Provided sufficient interest is
shown, the following non-credit courses will be offered. Any
person 18 years of age or older and not enrolled in a high school
curriculum is eligible to enroll in adult vocational education
courses. Adult vocational courses are non-credit courses. However, a
certificate is issued upon the successful completion of each course.
A person missing more then 16% (1 class out of 6) will not be
eligible for a certificate.

This course is designed to assist students in developing skills needed
to upholster or reupholster furniture. Skills will include
measuring, cutting, and sewing fabric to fit furniture items.
Areas covered including installation of back, arms, inside back,
seat cushions, and show-wood.

This course is designed to teach the operation, maintenance and repair of small gasoline engines such as lawnmowers, power saws, motorcycles, outboards, power conveyers, etc. Instruction will be given in basic principals of 2 and 4 cycle engines, fuel systems, engine lubrication, engine tune-up, cylinder reconditioning, pistons, piston rings, rod bearings and valves. This course will train students in the basic fundamentals of Word

instruction in Mig and Stick welding, which includes practice running
vertical up, flat, and fillet welding, as well as plasma
cutting. Projects will be completed using skills as they are

This course is designed to teach safety, measurement instruments,
blueprint reading, metal technology, and machine tool technology.
Activities involves the use of lathes, drills, mills, saws, grinders,
and other machine tools used in machine shop. |
