All students in grades K-4 attend general music class once or twice a week. Students are engaged in a variety of activities to help develop their singing voice, tonal and rhythmic abilities, listening skills, and overall music literacy.
Mrs. Tatum has her Level II Orff certification. Orff is a method of teaching music. It is based on things that children like to do: sing, chat rhymes, clap, and dance. Orff instruments are also used by students. Examples of Orff instruments are: xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels.
There are two extra– curriculum activities that students may audition to participate.
Kossuth Music Makers (Children’s Chorus) Kossuth Music Makers is composed of students in grades 3-5. Students rehearse on Tuesdays from 3:00-4:00p.m. Students perform for the KES Patriotic Program (9/11), KES Homecoming, Nursing Homes and KES Christmas Program.
The ASD Honor Choir is composed of students in grades 3-6 district wide. These students audition to be in this choir. For a list of Kossuth members, click here. 2009 rehearsal will start Thursday, January 15th. For more information, please contact Mrs. Tatum.
