Patriotic Program |
On Friday, September 11, 2009 KES celebrated Patriot Day by having our eighth annual Patriotic Program. Kossuth Music Makers, directed by Christie Tatum, presented Patriotic music. Veterans from the local area presented a Flag Ceremony in honour of our military branches. Local Firemen, Policemen, and Emergency teams participated in the program. Students watched a video of Colonel John Rhodes. Colonel Rhodes is currently serving in Iraq. He shared a message with students about the work him and other soldiers are doing for the country. Students also watched a video about the work of emergency responders. The program ended with a time of remembrance of 9/11/01. |

KES Homecoming |
Kossuth Elementary School, a school of heritage, tradition, and pride, brought the community together with its annual Homecoming Parade on Monday, October 19th. Class representatives were presented on floats that displayed Kossuth Thru the Years – from the horse and wagon days, to the cherished Alcorn Agricultural High School arch display, to the poodle skirt-twist and shout era, down to the Aggie pride we all possess and display by supporting our football team, and all athletics of our school. As the brilliant Autumn sun shone on the parade, so did the smiles and positive comments shine from old and young alike as they watched the parade in great expectation and anticipation. The administration, faculty, and staff of Kossuth Elementary appreciated our parents, community leaders and guests who joined in our festivities, and we ask for your continued support as we strive to achieve academic excellence. |

Breast Cancer Awareness Day |
KES students, faculty, and parents worked hard to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness this October. A challenge was put to each grade to raise the most money. The grade that raised the most money will get an afternoon field day complete with a blow-up slide and snow cones. There were various activities such as painting pink hair, pink fingernails, pink ribbons painted on faces, and many other activities. There was a decorate-your-door contest for each class. The Alcorn School District sold pink t-shirts that were worn on October 27 for the Walk-a-thon. Students walked around the school carrying balloons with pink ribbons. Many balloons had names of people they wanted to honor or memorialize. At the end of the walk, the balloons were released. Through these efforts we were able to raise over $8000 for the National Cancer Institute. The grade that raised the most money was 3rd Grade. The outpouring of love and support from our community enabled us to make such a tremendous contribution to such a worthy cause. |
